So what’s the connection between ADAS and wiper blades? Well, for the ADAS system to operate properly, it’s got to have a clean camera. If the camera is not clean, then it can’t see the road or objects in front of the vehicle. If it can’t see it, what is it going to do? Well, it’s going to deactivate those critical safety systems, like automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, and also automatic steering. So your customer may come in complaining and says, “Hey, my lane keeping function, it’s not working.” Or, “I had an incident with the emergency braking system engaging, and I wasn’t anticipating it.”

So when you are servicing a vehicle, make sure you’re looking at the wiper blades, especially if you’re trying to solve an ADAS problem with the vehicle with a false activation. The wiper blades, they’re critical to the entire system. Some vehicles may have as many as three cameras behind the windshield. If the windshield is not clean, they’re not going to function properly. So every time you’re doing maintenance on a vehicle, make sure you’re checking out the wiper blades, especially as these wiper blades age, what can happen is the tension goes away. When the tension goes away, it’s typically this area right here that starts to have issues by streaking and leaving stuff on the windshield. So by replacing the wiper blade, you’re restoring the tension and making sure that those cameras are clean. I’m Andrew Markel. Thank you very much.
